How does FriendCaller work? FriendCaller is a Web-based calling application that does not require any software installation on your desktop. It's a Java-based temporary browser applet that is loaded onto your browser when you log-in to www.FriendCaller.com, or click on a call invite link. Because FriendCaller does not have to be installed on your computer, you can use it wherever you have access to the Internet. Now, making Web-based Internet calls is as simple as writing an email. |

How can I call talk to anybody via the Web, and not just FriendCaller users? You can send a call invite-link to anybody you want to talk to. Since FriendCaller does not require a software installation on your desktop, the recipient of your call-invite can call you immediately, even without registering for FriendCaller. You can always add any FriendCaller user to your contact list and talk to them whenever they are online. |

What are the system requirements for FriendCaller? FriendCaller works with popular browsers including Internet Explorer 6+, Mozilla Firefox or Safari, on Windows Vista/XP, MAC OS-X or Linux operating systems. FriendCaller uses the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 or higher, which is pre-installed on almost every PC manufactured during Q4/2004 or later. Older PCs can be updated free at www.java.com. Your computer must have an Internet connection and microphone/speaker or a headset. |
Why am I prompted "please update your Java VM" when loading the applet? Before initiating itself in your browser, FriendCaller java phone applet tests the installed Java Runtime Environment Version (JRE). If the version you are using is too old, you will be directed to update your JRE for free on www.java.com. (Note: Depending on your OS, the JRE could also be referred to as Java Virtual Machine, Virtual Machine, Java VM, JVM, VM, J2SE). |
When loading the Java applet, I'm prompted to trust the certificate issued by C2Call GmbH. What does this mean? To operate, FriendCaller must be able to access your microphone, speaker and headset. Please select "trust" or "always trust". |

FriendCaller is not able to start-up or work on my computer. What went wrong? You must check to make sure that your firewall and/or any active anti-virus programs allow FriendCaller to load. To achieve this, we recommend setting your security to "medium" or "low," and then checking the Java settings to make sure that Java script and JRE are enabled. Next, close and restart your browser. Currently, FriendCaller VoIP service does not support calls through an Internet proxy. |
Do I need to update FriendCaller when new features are added? No. FriendCaller is a temporary applet that is loaded from the Internet with each session, so you will never have to update its feature. If there is an updated version available you will automatically access it with your next call. |
What VoIP technology does FriendCaller use to connect the calls? We are using SIP and proprietary technology. |
Does FriendCaller supports its VoIP service for mobile phones? In addition to making free Internet calls, you can download FriendCaller's VoIP mobile phone software to make cheap calls on the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Android phones. |
Does FriendCaller support NAT? Yes, Network Address Translation is often used by firewalls and routers to allow multiple devices to share a single public IP address. |
Does FriendCaller support STUN and calls through Proxies? No, however, both are not required in most environments. STUN (Simple Traversal of UDP through NATs) is a protocol for assisting devices behind a NAT firewall, or a router through packet routing. FriendCaller plans to implement STUN and Proxy support at a later date. |
